Raja Moreno

I’m currently co-founding Etymologic, a new AI safety public benefit corporation doing research and building products to detect and defend against attacks on training data integrity.

Before that, I was a MATS 9.1 Fellow under Dr. Francis Rhys Ward doing research on AI control in an attempt to reduce the probability that future AI systems kill non-figuratively everyone. My stream’s NeurIPS submission is forthcoming; the rest of my research is on the research page. Before MATS, I completed my M.Sc. in Artificial Intelligence at Imperial College London, partially (and generously) funded by Open Philanthropy (now Coefficient Giving). I remain grateful to the Imperial College School of Medicine Boat Club for teaching me the basics of stroke-side rowing and tolerating my general clumsiness in the six seat, and even more grateful to my London friends for enduring my gratuitously earnest Americanness.

Before Imperial, I YOLOed a math major at Yale after taking Pat Devlin’s since-deprecated MATH 230/231 sequence, in which Pat helped me start appreciating math as an aesthetic object. (Thanks, Pat!) I also thoroughly enjoyed the Directed Studies program, led a few FOOT trips, sang in Shades, ULAed MATH 225, managed an assortment of mischief, and somewhat improbably received the John Hubbard Curtis Prize for an essay I wrote on Dickens.
